Softwave Tissue Regeneration Technology

Electrohydraulic Shockwave Therapy

Here at the Fosnight Center, we value evidence-based medicine, up-to-date research, and innovative technology. SoftWave Tissue Regeneration Technologies (TRT)TM takes sexual medicine innovation to a whole new level and we are dedicated to providing exclusive options for treating sexual health concerns! Evidence indicates that shockwave therapy can help individuals with erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, and even decrease pelvic pain. Emerging research is also looking at orgasm difficulties, chronic prostate pain, and genital arousal.

What is shockwave therapy?

While shockwave technology isn’t new (it’s been around since the 1950’s) it is relatively new to the sexual medicine specialty. In urology, we’ve been using high-intensity shockwave electrohydraulic therapy to break up kidney stones for decades. Using lower-intensity shockwave therapy has been shown to have regenerative properties that can:

  • Form new blood vessels and increase blood flow

  • Decrease chronic inflammation

  • Stimulate collagen production

  • Breakdown calcified fibroblasts

  • Reduce pain

  • Release trigger points and tight muscles

What conditions can be treated?

The FDA cleared this device to address pain, increase blood flow, activate collagen growth, and connective tissue repair to improve healing and previous damage, however, the device has not been cleared and tested to treat all sexual health concerns. Based on this technology, here is a list of the conditions that can be treated:

  • Erectile dysfunction

  • Peyronie’s disease

  • Pelvic pain

  • Dyspareunia

  • Vaginismus

  • Anorgasmia/Difficulty reaching orgasm

  • Premature ejaculation

  • Cesarean scar/Episiotomy scar

  • Top surgery scar

  • Post vaginoplasty/phalloplasty

  • Orthopedic concerns

  • And many more!

What to expect during Softwave Shockwave therapy?

A trained professional will be administering the shockwave treatments by applying the shockwave applicator on the area of the body being treated. Gel will be applied to the specified area. The applicator will be turned on and a light tapping sensation may be felt. Depending on the number of shocks for the treatment, sessions will take 15-20 minutes.

Depending on the reason for the shockwave therapy treatment, most protocols include weekly sessions for at least 6 weeks, although some may require fewer. Treatment protocols are individualized to each patient’s need and are discussed at their appointment.

Remember, tissue regeneration takes time, and results may not be seen immediately.

Once a treatment protocol has been completed, booster treatments may also be required to maintain results, depending on the condition being treated.

Optimal results are usually seen when shockwave is combined with other treatment modalities and a multidisciplinary approach is utilized.

Appointments and Shockwave Cost

Established patients may call and schedule an appointment at any time. Your provider will discuss with you ahead of time the condition to be treated and a follow up appointment will be made after the shockwave sessions.

New patients or direct referrals may be required to schedule a quick consultation before shockwave therapy appointments are scheduled to ensure that this treatment modality is the best option for the medical condition.

Insurance will NOT cover these services however the Fosnight Center has taken cost into consideration and kept pricing low to ensure that most patients can have assess to this innovative treatment.
